What entrance exam does The Doon School conduct?

The Doon School entrance examination is not a standard curriculum test. It was never designed to be. The school draws boys from CBSE, ICSE, IGCSE, and state boards — from across India and from several countries abroad. A syllabus-driven paper would unfairly favour some backgrounds over others.
Instead, the examination tests aptitude: the ability to reason, comprehend, analyse, and apply. It covers four papers: English, Mathematics, Scientific Approach, and Reasoning and Case Study Response. Each test is 45 minutes long.
There is no prescribed syllabus. The standard corresponds approximately to the class the candidate has just completed. Sample papers and mathematics guidelines are shared with all registered candidates ahead of the test, giving every family a clear sense of what to expect.
The school’s own advice to families is consistent: encourage your son to read widely, think independently, and develop genuine intellectual interests. That preparation, the school believes, is more valuable than any structured drill.
