Rajiv Gandhi, Sanjay Gandhi, Mani Shanker Aiyer, and Zayed Khan are among the well-known alumni of the Welham boy’s school.
At the age of 41, Rajiv Gandhi was the world’s first elected Indian and one of the first ministers of the youth of the time. He is the Welham Boys school Alumni. Mr. Gandhi went to Trinity College in Cambridge after school, but he was soon enough transferred to Imperial College, London. He took an engineering course. As he would remark afterward, he was not particularly interested in “screwing for his examinations.”
He used to fly continuously with his greatest enthusiasm. It was no surprise that he passed the entrance exam at the Delhi Flying Club upon his return home from England, obtained a commercial pilot’s license, and soon became a pilot in the local national carrier Indian Airlines.
He studied at the Welham Boys School in Dehradun, where he formally studied music and founded classical music. He also learned guitar, piano, harmonium, and drums as instruments of play. By the age of eighteen, Zubin had become widely recognized in Dehradun as a vocalist. He played live on numerous occasions and supported several charitable organizations.
Jubin Nautiyal is an Indian singer. He got an Upcoming Male Vocalist from the Year at its 8th Mirchi Music Awards and in 2013, a Rising Musical Star Prize (2015) for his song “Zindagi Kuch Toh Bata (Reprise)” from Bajrangi Bhaijaan. He sung several songs for Hindi films early in his career, including some popular songs. Songs for the movies in several Indian languages he also recorded. His famously-known songs included “Tum Hi Aana,” “Vafa Na Raas Aayee,” “Bewafa Tera Masoom Chehra” and his newest tune, “Lut Gaye.”
Shaad Ali started his professional career as an assistant director to Mani Ratnam.
She made her debut in the film industry with Saathiya (2002), stars alongside Vivek Oberoi and Rani Mukerji, with Yash Raj Films and Madras Talkies. The film was a remake of Mani Ratnam’s Tamil film (2000) Alaipayuthe. The screenplay of Saathiya was written by Ratnam. The film was good and Shaad Ali got a place in the industry.
Sanjay Gandhi was an alumnus of Welham Boys School, Dehradun. His passion for sports vehicles was strong, and he also obtained a pilot’s license in 1976. He was interested in acrobats and earned many awards in the sport. In May 1980 he was appointed Congress Party Secretary-General. It was Gandhi with great energy and vigor, a loyal following, an extensive network of connections, and Gandhi’s surname behind him, which made him an excellent choice for prime minister. However, his unwavering authoritarianism and contempt for legislative government and process created many problems. He died in a tragic accident in 1980.
In Hindi cinema, Zayed Abbas Khan is an Indian actor and producer. He is the son of Bollywood comedian Sanjay Khan and has been nominated for the Filmfare Award. Holding a degree from Welham Boys School, his debut in Chura Liyaa Hai Tumne in 2003 was his acting. In 2004 he performed at Main Hoon Na, one of the greatest hits of his career. In 2011, the actor went on to make his debut film, Love Breakups Zindagi, with his co-owned production company Born Free Entertainment, with a friend and actress Dia Mirza and her spouse Sahil Sanga. Khan made his first TV debut in the Haasil program in 2017.
Mani Shankar Aiyar (born 10 April 1941), Indian politician and former official diplomat of Career Man. He is a member of the Indian National Congress party. Aiyar attended Welham Boys’ School. He was representing the Mayiladuthurai seat of Tamil Nadu in the 10th Lok Sabha, 13th Lok Sabha, and 14th Lok Sabha. He was a nominated MP of Rajya Sabha. In the 2014 Lok Sabha election, Mayiladuthurai defeated him, finished fourth, and lost his bail. He is also an honorable member of IIMUN. Council. In 1963 he joined the Indian Foreign Service.
Shanker is a special invitee to the Congress Working Committee and heads the party’s Political Training Department and Political Planning and Coordination Department. He has also authored several publications including Rajiv Remembrance Papers and Pakistan Papers and has published a four-volume paper on Rajiv Gandhi’s India. He is also a renowned political commentator.
