Nov 16, 2025 — To commemorate its 150th anniversary, Mayo College, Ajmer, marked the occasion with a global “Cycle City Ride” event. The Chandigarh chapter of the ride drew strong participation, reflecting the institution’s enduring legacy and community spirit.
Organized under the banner of the Mayo Cycling Network, the ride took place simultaneously in over 35 cities across five continents. The Chandigarh leg featured a 10-km city circuit that was officially cleared by local police.
The ride was formally flagged off at 7:30 am from Sector 17 by Admiral Sunil Lanba, a former Navy Chief, and was led by Lt Gen Alok Kler, former South-Western Army Commander. Also participating were notable Mayo alumni, including Justice Aman Chaudhary of the Punjab & Haryana High Court, who is both an alumnus and a parent of a current Mayo College student.
Over 100 residents from Chandigarh and the Tricity region joined the event. Alongside Mayoite alumni, participants included former students from other renowned boarding schools such as The Doon School, Lawrence School, Bishop Cotton School, Scindia School, Welham Boys’ & Girls’ Schools, and Maharani Gayatri Devi School.
Founded in Ajmer 150 years ago, Mayo College is one of India’s most iconic residential schools. Its alumni have excelled in a range of fields — from defense and diplomacy to medicine, sports, politics, and the arts.
