Woodstock School Alumni

Founded in 1854, Woodstock School in Mussoorie is Asia’s oldest international boarding school. Its motto, Palma non sine pulvere — no reward without effort — has shaped generations of students who have gone on to leave a mark across disciplines, continents, and cultures. They are known as Woodstockers, and the community they form through the Woodstock Old Students Association (WOSA) is one of the most globally distributed alumni networks of any school in India.

What makes the Woodstock alumni story unique is its breadth. The school has always drawn students from across the world and sent them back into it. The result is an alumni community that spans medicine, environmental science, filmmaking, finance, education, law, and entrepreneurship, connected not by geography but by a shared set of values rooted in the Himalayan hillside.

The Woodstock Old Students Association (WOSA)

The Woodstock Old Students Association, known as WOSA, connects over 5,000 alumni worldwide. It hosts annual events including Worldwide Woodstock Day, held simultaneously in dozens of cities across the globe, and the Homecoming Mela, which brings Woodstockers back to campus each year. WOSA Asia runs an active internship programme for current students, connecting them with alumni mentors across the region.

Woodstock’s alumni stand out not because they follow a single career path, but because they have gone into unusually diverse fields, from Himalayan conservation and global development to film, economics, law, and technology.

Since 2003, Woodstock School has presented the Distinguished Alum Award to recognise alumni for exemplary and recognised lifelong achievement in their field or in voluntary philanthropic activities. In 2023, the Outstanding Young Alum Award was introduced for alumni under 45 who have shown exceptional early-career impact.

What Woodstock Builds

The diversity of fields represented by Woodstockers is not accidental. It reflects the school’s founding conviction that education should be in service of something larger than the individual — whether that is environmental justice, healthcare equity, creative expression, or public service.

The school’s Desired Learning Outcomes, outlined on the official Woodstock website, emphasise intercultural understanding, sustainability, and personal responsibility. These are not just values stated in a document. They are visible in the careers that Woodstockers build and the causes they choose to invest in across their lives.
