A system of public schools in India called Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNVs) is for gifted kids, primarily from rural areas. They are managed by Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti, New Delhi, an independent agency under the Ministry of Education (MoE), Government of India’s Department of School Education and Literacy.

Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya Admission Process

The Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya Selection Test (JNVST), an entrance exam created, devised, and administered by the CBSE, is required for admission to Class 6th of the JNVs.

Every year, JNVST for Class 6th is administered across the nation to choose the 80 most deserving students for each JNV. Depending on the session arrangement in the respective state or union territory, it is conducted in three phases each year.

During Class V, candidates may only apply once for the test. The exam covers math, regional language, and cognitive abilities. The schools offer reserves in accordance with NVS policy, which includes reservations for ST and SC, at least 75% of students being selected from rural regions, a maximum of 25% from urban areas, a fixed percentage of 33% for female students, and 3% for applicants with disabilities.

JNVST, created by CBSE, is also administered for admission to Class 9th, and lateral admissions, based on merit in Class 10th, are made for Class 11th to account for retention and best utilize seats.

According to Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya admission policies, at least 75% of the slots in a district are covered by applicants chosen at the Block level from rural areas, and the remaining seats are allocated based on district-wide open merit.

9000 seats have been added to JNVs over the past four years, and after the inclusion of 5000 seats, there will have been a total of 14000 seats added over the last five years. The total number of seats now exceeds 51,000 after the addition of 5000 extra seats in Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya.

Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya Class 6th Eligibility Criteria

  • Only those who reside in the district where Navodaya Vidyalaya is located may apply.
  • A person must have been born between May 1, 20011, and April 30, 2015, in order to qualify for the JNVST. For any reserved categories, there is no age restriction.
  • Candidates must be enrolled in a government-funded or other recognized school and in the fifth grade during their previous academic year..
  • Candidates who completed the National Institute of Open Schooling’s “B” certificate competency course, are also eligible.
  • If a candidate has taken the JNVST exam before, he or she is ineligible to apply because no candidate may take the exam a second time.

Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya Class 9th Eligibility Criteria

  • To be able to apply for the JNVST entrance exam, candidates must have passed the class 8th exam from a government-approved or recognized board.
  • The district in which JNV operates and admission is requested must be the same for students.
  • In a government-approved or recognized school, students must be enrolled in class 8 for the academic year 2022–2023.
  • Students must be between the ages of 11 and 15 as of May 1 of the year of admission; there is no age relaxation for the reserved category.
  • Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti maintains the authority to submit any student to a medical board to verify their age if there is any question about their age.
  • If chosen, students who fall under the SC and ST categories must present a caste certificate. Such records must be generated during registration. The certificate must be given to the JNV’s principal in question.
