Relief for Parents: Delhi to Monitor School Fee Hikes

The Delhi Cabinet has approved the Delhi School Education (Transparency in Fixation and Regulation of Fees) Bill, 2025, aiming to regulate fee structures in private schools and prevent unauthorized hikes. The bill proposes fines up to ₹10 lakh for schools that increase fees without proper authorization.
Chief Minister Gupta described the move as “bold and historic,” addressing widespread concerns among parents about arbitrary fee increases. The bill mandates the formation of three-tier committees at the school, district, and state levels to oversee and approve any proposed fee hikes. These committees will include school officials, teachers, parents, and representatives from the Directorate of Education.
Under the new legislation, private schools can propose fee hikes only once every three years, and such proposals must receive approval from the respective committees. The law will come into effect from the current academic session, ensuring a structured and transparent process for fee regulation.
