2-Day Military History Seminar Inspires Students at Welham Boys’ School

Welham Boys’ School (WBS) in Dehradun recently hosted a 2-day Military History Seminar, bringing together students from over two dozen schools across India. The event aimed to teach young learners about leadership, strategy, and the lessons of past wars.
The seminar was inaugurated by Lt Gen Nirbhay Sharma (retd.), former governor of Arunachal Pradesh and Mizoram. He highlighted that while warfare has evolved, the values and lessons from military history remain important for building leadership and strategic thinking.
A major session focused on the 1971 Bangladesh Liberation War, covering topics such as Russia’s support to India, student movements, and the Indian Army’s adaptation to riverine combat. Students gained unique insights into historical military strategy and decision-making.
WBS Chairman Darshan Singh organized the seminar to give students a platform to interact with military experts, while Principal Sangeeta Kain emphasized the importance of learning critical thinking and teamwork from history.
