The primary objective of this institution was to provide Indian boys with appropriate education and training, ensuring a high success rate for those who would be sent to the Royal Military College, Sandhurst, as part of the Indianisation program for the Indian Army’s officer cadre. While known as a college, it actually functioned as a pre-Sandhurst establishment modeled after English public schools. The British believed that if it was not feasible for Indian students to receive education in Britain, a public school education in India was essential for them to become army officers. They held the view that a public school education was particularly important for Indian boys, as their upbringing prepared them for the discipline and challenges of military life. Thus, the institution aimed to lay the foundation for selected young men and groom them to become future military leaders. It successfully serves as a feeder institution to NDA, NAVAC, and facilitates cadets’ applications to CME, Technical Entry (CTW), and other relevant schemes that enable them to join the Defense Services.
