This must be your dream to send your child to the best School in India. There are so many International boarding schools that provide the best opportunities and facilities to their students. But the road to reach one of these schools is really difficult. Life can take a U-turn just before the final selection to these schools. So, what to do? How to get through the entrance exam and most importantly the boarding school interview?
Why do you want to join our school to pursue your education?
In these types of questions, the school wants to know what are the things that attract you to join that particular boarding school. Be it The Doon School, Welham Girls’, Woodstock Mussoorie, or any other top boarding school, their priority is to choose the students who know their goals.
While answering this question, you must be well aware of the facts about the school. Then, structure your answer in such a way that your future goals could align with the facilities and opportunities that the school provides.
What do you like the most about your current school?
In these types of questions, the interviewer is expecting you to show enthusiasm, sound positive overall, and name one or two things that you enjoyed in your current school. Your answer could be like this:
My current school follows strict rules in discipline and timing and hence I know how to be punctual in whatever we do.
My school offers test prep classes after school and tutoring during school (during lunch) so students who have trouble with a subject get help.
What’s one thing you would change about your school?
In this question, the examiner wants to check your observation skills and how you see the negative things around you. While answering this question, you must understand one thing you cannot go extremely pessimistic. Maintain serenity while answering. Don’t be too harsh with anything. Along with this, definitely suggest improvements or tell them what would you do if you will be the deciding member.
What is your biggest strength?
This seems to be a very easy question at first. You tend to answer this question in the most general way possible. But, that should not be the case. Try not to generalize your answer. Time management, positive thinking, and communication skills can be mentioned but these are again common traits.
Instead of this, you can start with an incident. Let’s say, you can mention that last year I was unwell before my final exams. I was not in the condition to study for a month. Instead of getting anxious at the last minute, I managed to write my exam papers by rigorously preparing 3-4 days before every exam. Though, my mother helped me a lot. From this incident, I got to acknowledge one trait about myself, I work well even under a lot of pressure. So, I consider this my biggest strength.
Describe your biggest weakness?
This question is generally asked in the interviews to examine the self-awareness of the candidate. Secondly, check how honest can you speak about yourself? It is indeed a brave act to address your weaknesses in front of so many unknown people.
For an instance, if you are an introvert, you can say, ‘I am a born shy kid and thus takes a lot of time to open up to people. I find it very challenging to make new friends. So, my short-term goal for this year is to make as many good friends as possible by being in your school. Taking admission here will be a great opportunity for me to try to speak up and introduce myself to others. I want to become a confident person.
What has been your biggest or most proud achievement in life to date?
Here, you have to think about some accomplishment that you’d be genuinely excited and proud to talk about. This will help you to keep the right level of energy. For an instance, you can tell them about the last time you got a prize in some school competition or when you scored the highest in your class examination.
The answer can include any achievement. The only thing that will matter the most is your enthusiasm while describing it.
Tell us about your family
In this question, they want to know your background and the core values that you have taken from your family. Following could be your sample answer:
“Sir, I have been brought up in a very disciplined atmosphere. My parents always gave the top priority to values and principles. It is my great pleasure to give an introduction to my family. My respected father’s name is Mr. Ashraf. He is a businessman. My mother is a housemaker. My father is a hardworking man so I always get inspired by him to work till I get success. My mother always taught me to be authentic and real.”
Who is that person from history you admire the most?
Here, the Interviewer wants to examine your influence from the outside world. He is willing to see what sort of traits attracts you. Actually, the question is not only about the person but it is also about the deeds and actions taken by that person. So, name somebody who you really admire. And not just the name, you should know a lot about that person. While your preparation, get all the facts and figures about the historical person that you really like.
And why only any person in History. They can also ask you your favorite sportsperson, the politician that you like the most, or the freedom fighter, etc. Be prepared accordingly.
Where do you see yourself after school?
This is again one of the very common questions that are asked in boarding school interview. Be it The Doon School interview, or Welham Girls’ entrance test, this question is one of the examiner’s favorites. You may answer the question like this:
“Talking about short-term goals, I have mentioned above that I am an introvert so I would love to see myself interacting with people confidently. For 5 years plan, I want to become a pilot so want to gather as much information about its entrance exam as possible. I want to start my preparation right from the moment I get admission here. I will try to keep myself informed throughout my school life so that my dream could be achieved easily in 5 years.”
