The Rashtriya Indian Military College Dehradun is an Inter-Service Category ‘A’ establishment, administered through the Army Training Command under the Ministry of Defence. The school was inaugurated in 1922 by Royal Highness, Prince Edward VIII, the Prince of Wales. During his Address to the first 37 Cadets, the Prince said, “It is the first few blows on the anvil of the life that gives the human weapon the set and temper that carry him through life’s battles”.
The Prince also made reference to the old Indian tradition of ‘Guru and Chela’. This relationship of mutual love and reverence has formed the rock bed of RIMC ethos. The purpose of the Institution is to provide Indian Boys with suitable education and training to ensure their selection in defense services in the future.
RIMC with a campus size of 138-acre is located in the Doon valley in the foothills of the Himalayas. It is an ideal setting of verdant green and peaceful environment for developing young minds. The school selects 250 boys from every State, which is based on merit through written examination, interview, and a medical test.

RIMC Dehradun campus has hundred years old buildings. There are Dormitories, with a Mess and Dining Hall for meals; the Education Block with spacious classrooms, well equipped with Smart Classes and Laboratories. There is a teacher-student ratio of 1:12.
Along with this, the school campus has playfields, indoor and outdoor Courts, a 50 meters Olympic size Swimming pool replete with a 10 meters Diving Pool, Indoor and Outdoor Shooting Ranges, and multiple facilities for co-curricular activities.
RIMC admission to class 8 to approximately 25 cadets every six months. Candidates should not be less than 11½ years of age or must not have attained the age of 13 on 01 January or 01 July (the term they join in). Along with this, you should be medically fit for entry to the College, in accordance with the medical standards prescribed.
According to Wikipedia, you have to score at least 50% in each subject to qualify. Candidates are then shortlisted through the written test and called for Viva-Voce which is 50 marks, and have to pass a medical test.
For the application process of RIMC Admission, you will have to forward a self-addressed slip and an account payee Bank Demand Draft of Rs 600/- through speed post. The Demand Draft will be made in favor of “THE COMMANDANT RIMC DEHRADUN”, BRANCH SBI TEL BHAWAN, DEHRADUN BANK CODE 01576, UTTARAKHAND.
RIMC recently introduced another way to get the application form. Yes, now the online mode is also available. You can make the online payment on RIMC Website.
In response to this, you will get a prospectus-cum-application form, receipt of the payment, and a booklet of old Question Papers by Speed post only. Please note that once you fill out the form and submit the application fee, no refund of the application fee on any condition will be made.
There are certain documents that must be accompanied with RIMC admission form 2023-24:
RIMC, Sainik Schools, and RMS are the number one choice for students who are passionate to join the armed forces. These schools are capable enough to train students for such a difficult duty at an early age. Generally, one vacancy per State is allotted for RIMC Admission. However, some states with larger populations have up to two vacancies allotted.
Candidates are selected on the basis of their performance in an All India Entrance Examination held twice a year comprising a written examination of question papers in English (125 Marks), Mathematics (200 Marks), and General Knowledge (75 Marks), Successful candidates are called for Viva-Voce test (50 marks).
Written Examination: The written part of the examination consists of three subjects i.e. English (125 Marks), Mathematics (200 Marks), and General Knowledge (75 Marks). You can answer Maths and General knowledge papers either in Hindi or in English. To qualify for this exam, you must obtain a minimum of 50% marks in each subject.
Viva Voce: The oral examination consists of a Viva Voce test of 50 marks. This is designed to assess your intelligence, personality, and confidence. The minimum passing mark will be 50%.
Medical Examination: Once you qualify for the interview, you will have to undergo a medical examination at a selected Military Hospital. When they find you medically fit, only then you will be considered for RIMC Admission.
Note: Your medical examination is only a part of the system of selection and does not guarantee the final selection. The final decision will be of the school authorities.
